西藏寺庙的神像多为铜质圆雕,或以铜锡合金为原料,也有用金、银、铜、铁、水晶、石墨和汞为原料合成铸造的。造像工序分为冶炼、翻砂、雕刻、磨光,讲究的还在神像上镶嵌玉石、珍珠等,或安装金、银、铜制的叶、片、丝、环等饰物。西藏寺庙也供奉石质佛像、木雕佛像和泥塑佛像。从工艺和风格上看,西藏神像的造像艺术也兼收了印度、尼泊尔和汉族地区的特点。
